Anu Prabhakar, reflecting on her 25-year journey as an actress, shares her disbelief at reaching such a significant milestone. Recalling a recent conversation with friends where the realization dawned upon her that she had completed a quarter-century since her debut in "Hrudaya Hrudaya" on September 16, she admits it took some time for the milestone to sink in. The flood of memories kept her awake that night as she delved into reminiscing about her early days on set and the changes she has witnessed over the years. She shares excerpts from her journey, including the moment during the shooting of "Hrudaya Hrudaya" in her college summer holidays when she realized her passion for acting. The continuous success of her films paved the way for her career growth. Anu also expresses gratitude for the love and support she receives from Kannadigas, who hold a special place for her in their hearts despite her work in other languages. She acknowledges the evolution of Kannada cinema, especially in terms of technological advancements, citing examples of using computer graphics and the ease of shooting complex scenes compared to the past.In this digital age, I often reminisce about the strong camaraderie that existed on sets in the past. Nowadays, I notice a sense of aloofness among people on set. Back then, the set felt like a large family where we would all gather together during lunch breaks under a tree at the shoot location. There were no trailers, and Shivarajkumar himself would serve food to everyone. The distinction between commercial and independent cinema was more pronounced back then. Some films were designed specifically for awards, but now we see a shift towards making realistic films that also perform well commercially, which I view as a positive change. The continued love and support I receive from fans is truly a blessing, and I am grateful for being remembered for the roles I have played.
Anu Prabhakar expresses her desire to see more powerful roles written for women in the film industry. She reflects on the impactful performances by past stars such as Bharathi, Aarthi, Leelavati, and Manjula, as well as contemporary actors like Malashree, Sudharani, and Shruti. She believes that women should be given roles that go beyond mere glamour and portray strength and substance. Anu credits filmmakers who have entrusted her with such roles for opening up more opportunities for her. She avoids playing characters that are significantly older than her age to prevent being typecast.
Anu also acknowledges her husband, Raghu, as her biggest support. She took a break from work only when her daughter, Nandana, was born. Raghu has always encouraged Anu to pursue her passion for acting, which has allowed her to seamlessly transition back into the industry after her break. The individual is skilled in the art form and has been a supportive friend and partner to me. As parents, we coordinate our schedules to ensure one of us is always home for Nandana. We are grateful for the support of both my mother and Raghu's mother, who provide us with peace of mind as we raise our daughter.
